Text and text types

What is text?

Text is a comunicative ocurrence which has to be complemented by the 7 standards in order to carry out purpose.

Text types

Informative text:

It is a text that wants to advise or tell you about something. A dictionary is an example of that description.

Persuasive text:

It is a text that is constructed to make you do something. An advert is a good example of persuasive text.

Descriptive text:

It is a text that wants you to picture what is being described. A good example of descriptive text is this piece of writing:

“It was a cold grey day in late November. The weather had changed overnight, when a backing wind brought a granite sky and a mizzling rain with it, and although it was now only a little after two o'clock in the afternoon the pallor of a winter evening seemed to have closed upon the hills, cloaking them in mist.” By Daphne du Maurier

Instructive text:

It is a text that instructs or tells you how to do something. A recipe is good example of instructive text.

Personal Reflection

It is completely relevant that as an English teacher one must know how a text is composed, because if that text does not contain the necessary requirements such as the seven standards not only it will not be comprehensible but also it will not carry out meaning, therefore it will be text.
