Text Typology

Text typology is concerned with the identification of the criteria leading to the

classification (typology) of texts (or text types, text classes, styles, genres). 

 Functional Classification

It is a view of the text from the perspective that satisfy diverse communicative needs of the society members.

  • representative or assertive type 

  •  directive type

  • expressive type 

  • commissive type

  • declarative or performative type

Situational Classification 

The situational classification sorts out texts according to

  •  the ´sphere of activity´ private, official or public

  • ´form of communication´ dialogical and monological

Strategic Classification

The strategic classification deals primarily with the topic and the ways of its expansion

  • narrative

  •  descriptive

  • argumentative

Genres

Speech events of the same type are identified as belonging to particular genres

  • simplex

  • complex
